32Co Featured by BDJ: Upskilling UK Dentists to Treat Sleep Apnoea and Snoring
32Co Featured in the British Dental Journal: Expanding Access to Sleep Apnoea Treatment
We’re proud to share that 32Co’s work has been spotlighted in the British Dental Journal, highlighting our mission to transform access to treatment for sleep apnoea and snoring across the UK.
Tackling an Urgent Health Challenge
Millions of people suffer from undiagnosed or untreated obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Many face years-long NHS waiting lists or struggle to access specialist care altogether. The BDJ feature outlines how 32Co is addressing this by launching a nationwide network of Aerox Sleep Centres, beginning this summer in London, Manchester, Edinburgh, and Bristol.
Upskilling Dentists for Wider Access
Currently, fewer than 0.5% of UK dentists offer sleep apnoea treatment with Mandibular Advancement Devices (MADs) — custom oral appliances proven to improve sleep quality, often with better long-term adherence than CPAP. Because only dentists can prescribe these devices, access has been limited.
32Co is changing this by:
- Upskilling dentists to safely deliver OSA treatment
- Connecting them virtually with medical specialists for collaboration
- Enabling NICE-approved care locally, reducing the need for patients to travel or wait years for treatment
Early Results Show Strong Impact
Hundreds of patients have already benefited through pre-pilot trials, with 80% reporting they would be very disappointed if they could no longer use their device. These outcomes underline the real demand and life-changing potential of making MADs more widely available.
Looking Ahead
With support from our clinical team — led by Professor Ama Johal — and our network of over 70 technologists and educators, 32Co is expanding beyond clear aligner orthodontics into dental sleep medicine. Our goal remains clear: to empower clinicians and improve access to essential treatments that enhance health and wellbeing.
